Translation

How am I?
I love to listen
I have bourgeois daydreams
I live like a cat
I photograph like a ghost
I love what is simple
I do not believe in injustice
I am modern and well-informed
I read little
I walk much
I know Beauty,
but not Happiness *
I think everybody is right
and that everything deserves to be told
I like appearances,
admire those who play,
adore not knowing.

* Play of words referring to Fernanda Laguna’s influential art space and publishing project from the early 2000’s, Belleza y Felicidad (Beauty and Happiness)

ALBERTO GOLDENSTEIN, b. Buenos Aires, 1951.

He is one of the most relevant artists in contemporary photography in Argentina. He emerged within the scene of the Centro Cultural Rojas in the early nineties, introducing a novel approach to the medium based on his sensitive, spontaneous and pictorial gaze. Goldenstein has been highly influential on younger generations through the workshops he taught at “the Rojas” as well as his role as curator of its Fotogalería. He has shown his work extensively in Buenos Aires, Mexico, Madrid, Zurich and other cities. In 2018 the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires organized an extensive retrospective exhibition. His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts, The Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), the Castagnino Museum in Rosario and in numerous major private collections.
